Nov. 19: A Relaxing Weekend

November 19, 2007

Happy Sort of Monday…

We’re actually off on Thanksgiving and the following day, so this conceivably could be considered our Wednesday (i.e. two more days left till a mini vacation.) Not that I’m counting the moments or anything.

I hope you all had a restful weekend. I certainly did. I’m going to throw on some pictures of Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY later in the week once I get them developed. I took one of those disposable cameras after forgetting the snazzy digital. New Paltz is about an hour and a half’s drive from NYC, a very easy trip up the New York State Thruway. It’s a kind of a bohemian college town, with some cool restaurants and a beautiful resort up in the mountains — Mohonk Mountain House. (Google it!)

My boyfriend Doug and I went up there this weekend and had such a relaxing time. I love the scenery, which is something a New Yorker rarely gets, with the exception of Central Park. But even there you see hundreds of people every foot.

MMH is perched on a cliff above a beautiful lake. The Smiley Family has owned the place since the 1800’s. They’re Quakers, so up until a few years ago they didn’t have alcohol on the property but they’ve built a cozy little bar so all you beer guzzlers out there just calm down. It’s like being at summer camp, only you can go in the winter and it definitely has adult attractions — a gorgeous spa, indoor heated pool, fireplaces in the rooms, and cozy nooks to read or talk. There’s something for everyone, including kids (outdoor ice skating pavilion, hiking, horseback riding, carriage rides). The other nice thing is that the meals are included in the room cost, and the food is plentiful and really good. Breakfast and lunch is pretty much buffet style, but a sort of high-level buffet. We’re definitely not talking Vegas strip nightmare buffet here. Dinner is formal, sit-down and the appetizers, entrees and desserts are fantastic. It’s a reasonable place, price-wise so if you’re looking for a great getaway and you’re in the NYC/Connecticut/NJ region, this is a great choice. I sound like I’m doing PR for them; but honestly, it was such a nice experience I had to share it with you…

Today’s show featured Anthony Anderson, from the show K-Ville. He was a ball of energy — loved him. Of course I had to ask about the show’s co-star Cole Hauser but the moment I did, Anthony turned right back on me and started asking about my personal life; he must have done his research in the greenroom before the show because he knew quite a bit about Doug. It caught me off guard but cracked me up and shut me up.

Also check out crazyblinddate.com — a new online dating website that I actually think may have some serious legs. It’s all about setting clients up with dates quick, like REALLY quick. Call in the morning; go out on a date that evening.

I’m going to wrap this up because I’ll be honest — I had no sleep last night. I think I closed my eyes for about two hours so I’m going to sneak out and get some rest. I have a feeling I’m coming down with something just in time for my holiday vacation!!!!

We’ll be live this week till Wednesday; then “Best of” shows Thursday and Friday but please watch because we have some goodies: Brad Garrett, The Kitchen Diva with a twist on Thanksgiving leftovers and the Dog Whisperer, among so much more.

See ya!
