My Secret Beauty Tip!
April 10, 2008
This has been a busy week — my dad’s back in town doing press for his book Storming Las Vegas, which continues to dominate the “True Crime” arena. I implore you to at least read some of the reviews and then decide if you want to go out and get it, but trust me, it’s a page-turner.
We had Melora Hardin from The Office on the show — such a nice woman and so much more beautiful in person than on that show (which is the intention of the show; she’s glamorous in person and they definitely dumb that down on the show). She’s one of those “normal” people who have no airs about themselves — she just comes in, talks like a normal human being, acts like a normal human being. She doesn’t do the “I’m a Star” thing, which is refreshing.
Tomorrow, make sure to watch Trish McEvoy’s segment on the right makeup for spring. I say this all the time — tone it down!!! I think a lot of us have a habit of slathering on the foundation, then the powder, then the blush, etc. When really, I don’t know many folks who look better with a ton of makeup on in person.
Trish is great when it comes to giving real-girl tips. One of my favorite makeup tips is also a money-saver. When I go out during the day, I really try not to put foundation on my whole face — I usually just kind-of put it around the eye area, and slightly into the forehead and cheeks. The reason I do this is because that’s usually the area that looks tired, so the makeup will even it out. I always use dewy makeup — matte just makes people look like they have makeup on as opposed to just really creamy skin.
My favorite foundation is Chanel Vitalumiere. It’s not cheap, but it lasts a long time, so it’s totally worth it to me. Not slathering makeup on all over helps keep it lasting longer, obviously. To help even things out elsewhere, I use a bronzer, and that really is about it as far as facial coverage goes.
Because my Chanel foundation is creamy-ish, it works well with my other little secret tip, which isn’t such a huge secret I guess. Instead of using powder blush, which wears off fast sometimes and can look cakey and harsh, I take a dab of peachy or pink lipgloss and mush it into the apples of my cheeks immediately after I put the foundation on, before it sets in too much. It makes you look like you’re glowing. Doug always comments on how youthful I look when I have this whole process in effect. I’m telling you — there are very few people who look good with gobs of makeup on.
I don’t like to use powder really because I always feel it gets caked too quickly. Especially under the eyes! Ugh, unless I’m on television, I never use powder under the eyes.
But of course all of this is just icing on the cake because Trish will have some great ideas tomorrow. And by the way, check out her perfume “Sexy 9” — it’s blackberry and vanilla musk and it is AMAZING.
