Jan. 4: Happy Friday!
January 4, 2008
Hi, and happy Friday!
So Donald Trump was on Thursday; he’s such a character. I know, he’s like a Howard Stern, you either love him or loathe him, but I’m definitely in the former category. He’s been a big supporter of me, Mike and our past and current show.
Trump’s a commanding guy, he exudes star quality and there’s no doubt about it. He’s got to be like 6’4” or thereabouts, and he isn’t a skinny one either. It’s pretty funny, when Trump walks into a room, you KNOW he’s there. Everyone is drawn to him; we have celebs in the green room all the time but few have everyone a mesmerized as he. Part of it is that HE knows he’s the star in the room, and makes sure everyone else does too. And I mean that in terms of the fact that he’s confident, strong-voiced and more than a bit cocky, which is part of his charm. He’s kind of a caricature of himself.
It’s funny; I had a lunch meeting with him a few years back. We met at Trump Tower. His office is up on the top floors, as are the sets for “The Apprentice,” believe it or not. But down in the lobby, there are shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. We went down into the restaurant in the main lobby area and as we made our way through (with bodyguards and others in tow) people, many of whom were tourists, were just freaking out. They’re like “Wait! We came to check out Trump Tower because we’ve heard about it from the news and from his show, but we never actually thought he would SHOW UP!” I think a lot of folks thought it was an impersonator or something, it was pretty funny.
Anyway, of course we asked about Rosie and his response was priceless. Actually a couple of the tabs picked his comments up — you can check out People.com for a look at their coverage of our segment with the Trumpster.
And yes, as many of you have observed, my ex-boyfriend was on the show at the top during the “tiger attack” segment. We are still friends and he is the best person to go to in the world when it comes to big cats. I know a few of you have other questions, but I’m just going to leave the Dave commentary alone for now.
My whole feeling on that attack is — zoos should anticipate that humans can be dumb, and sadly it sounds like these three fell into that category. But after that polar bear attack that we showed you, you get the idea that people do dumb things sometimes that aren’t necessarily intended to be hurtful to the animals. Zoos I think should be responsible for making sure no matter how evil, stupid, moronic, ignorant or incompetent a visitor is, that visitor will be safe.
I think it’s terrible that the teen was killed, and terrible the tiger was killed as well. The tiger did what tigers do for goodness sake. But the officer had to kill it so it wouldn’t continue its attack. How that zoo didn’t have a worker with some sort of stun or tranquilizer device handy is beyond me.
Today’s show was fascinating, and I’m not talking about Britney Spears and her latest drama. That’s just sad. Those kids need to be out of her care indefinitely. I spoke with someone in the industry who worked with her a few years back and they said she is known and has been known to be highly volatile; she’ll scream and throw fits on a whim. But another coworker, my makeup artist Daniela said she worked with Britney about five years ago and she was a total pleasure: sweet, calm and respectful. So who knows?
The fascinating part of the show started with our segment on face blindness. Think of it as face amnesia. It’s not that the people who suffer from it can’t “see” a face; faces aren’t blurred. They can see every inch of a face; they just don’t recognize it once it leaves their sight. So let’s say I suffer from face blindness. My mom walks in and starts talking to me…then she leaves….then she walks back in five minutes later. I remember that I was talking to my mom five minutes before, but the person who just walked in — I don’t recognize her. Maybe I’ll be able to tell it’s my mom because I’ve ingrained it into my mind that my mom has short blonde hair, olive skin and a mole on her left cheek. It’s fascinating and sad, although the people we had on our show today have great attitudes about it. Their point was, “We’ve been living with this condition all our lives, we don’t know any different.” Life would certainly be a lot easier and possibly a lot more rewarding if they didn’t have this issue to deal with every moment, but they’re doing pretty well.
And everyone please watch or TIVO Lifetime TV’s new series starring Matt Titus, who is hosting a new show on matchmaking. He’s a good friend of our show, featured in several relationship segments. Tune in!
Have a great weekend. I’m hopefully going to kick this cold once and for all. Although tomorrow night I’m supposed to go to my friends Derek and Ashley’s engagement party. The crew we’re meeting up with is WILD so I’m sure my Sunday will be spent recuperating.
