Happy Friday!

April 4, 2008

So Robin Quivers was everything our producer Greg (he did the pre-interview with her) said she’d be: Funny, polite, friendly and OPEN. Thank GOD.

We’ll definitely have her back because she has so much to say and I still have so much to ask. She was there to promote her charity event that hopefully I’ll be attending in a couple weeks. Once we ran the background package on her, and talked about the charity and a little about Howard we were out of time! I hate that!

After the show, the Howard Stern Show sent a reporter to interview me and our EP Nancy Duffy, so I guess we’ll hear that maybe sometime next week. They wanted to know what I think of Howard — see yesterday’s blog.

I felt a little star struck actually, which kind of took the interview down a notch lower than I would have liked it from my end. It’s just that I’ve been listening to them since I was like 11-years-old; my father produced a show that featured a segment on Howard very early on in his career and I tuned in after that. Actually, what were my parents thinking letting me listen to that? Oh well, they probably didn’t know. It was a different time back then and I certainly didn’t know the ways of the world so I’m sure I probably didn’t understand much of what they were saying anyway.

I started the day feeling so refreshed, which is mainly because I actually went to bed early and slept through the night. I have such a hard time sleeping sometimes; last night I was comatose. Got to the studio a tad bit late because the weather in NYC is bad right now. I’m definitely ready for summer. I live in Hoboken, New Jersey and the streets there leave a lot to be desired whenever it rains. Every Friday morning I call in to a live radio show based in Philly, The Kidd Chris Show. It’s Howard Stern-esque; they’re hilarious. THEY should be syndicated. It’s a bunch of guys being guy-like, which, as a fan of the male persuasion, I very much enjoy.

I wouldn’t say I’m a girl’s girl or a guy’s girl; I’m kind of a mix of both. I’m a great friend to my girlfriends, I think, but I also love hanging out with guys because there’s never any drama. NEVER! If you bail out, they’re like “cool, talk to you soon” whereas girls usually take it personally and wonder what’s wrong with the friendship. I think sometimes I drive Doug crazy because I’m always like “I’m going to go have drinks with (fill-in-the-blank) Julie, Audrey, Alicia, Rebecca, Laura, Cheryl, Laura, etc. etc.” It’s important to nurture my relationship with him, obviously. But I also know how important it is to keep a solid circle of friends outside the relationship sphere. In fact, tonight I’m going out with the girls, no big blowout, just meeting up at a place in Hoboken. It’s times like these that make me want to spend MORE time with Doug, actually. We spend a lot of time together, but I find after not being with him for just one day I really miss him. I guess that’s a pretty good indicator things are solid.

Anyway back to Kidd Chris and Co. — so I do a live hit with them on Friday mornings, and it always starts the day off on a good note. His birthday is coming up next month and they are asking me to wear the french maid outfit I wore as a Halloween costume this past October to his big b-day bash. First, I’m sure it looked better on telivision with all the glamorous lights and professional makeup than it would in person. Second, I’d feel like a weirdo wearing that outfit again. Or any outfit again. Well, in front of them I would. Now Doug, that’s another story. Ha-ha. Kidding. Not really.

Moving right along… Mike came in for the show but he was really feeling lousy so he split right afterward. I wish he’d just stay home and rest. And I mean that in the most loving way. Maybe I’ll get all the girls together and we’ll bring him chicken soup tonight. I’m sure he’d love that — he’s always telling Audrey and Julie “tonight’s the night” when we’re out. It’s hysterical.

I always love our M&J Investigate… segments. We did diet scams, and that was a huge success a while back. Now, we’re doing anti-aging creams…right up my alley, baby. We are basing our series on a Consumer Reports study of nine different anti-aging creams that all basically claim they can take wrinkles away in some fashion or another.

Today we looked at Strivectin and Avon Anew. I’ve actually used both and while I personally didn’t see anything negative, I didn’t notice much of an improvement from Strivectin. I did, however, really like Avon Anew — I loved the smell and the consistency. It is very gooey, and to me, that feels and looks right when slathered all over my face. When I used Anew, I literally carried the little pot around with me wherever I went and I found myself using IT instead of makeup. I liked the dewy look it gave me. Now, did I notice it took away my wrinkles? No, but I did feel my face looked smoother. For what it’s worth.

Next week the series continues with a look at what creams DO work. One in particular tops the list. And you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to have it.

Jeff Corwin is such a funny guy. I’ve seen his shows on Animal Planet before but I’ve never noticed how great a sense of humor he has until he started doing our show. Those creatures today were crazy, particularly the albino alligator. Our stage manager, Andrew tells me they have a big one down at some aquarium in Point Pleasant, on the Jersey Shore.

I’m heading off to get ready for our meeting (being held a little early today) and then to meet the girlies for our little girls’ night. Have a great weekend and I’ll see you Monday.
